Dee Brown is a former professional baseball player.
Born in the Bronx, New York, Dee’s family moved upstate looking for a better quality of life for their son. They landed in Newburgh, NY, where he became a standout in multiple sports at Marlboro High School. Dee’s school exploits on the football field as a running back earned him numerous Division 1 college scholarships offers. He chose the University of Maryland as they would also allow him to play baseball. On the baseball field, his bat speed and power made him a scout’s number one pick and the Kansas City Royals chose him in the first round of the 1996 Major League Baseball Draft. He was 14th overall pick out of high school, and baseball became his lone sport.
Dee made his major-league debut at the age of 20 and played professionally for 16 years, the last two in Japan. During his playing career, he was named the Royals Co-Minor League Player of the year and played in the first ever MLB All Star Futures Game.
Having beat the odds by making the leap from the Bronx to playing professional baseball propels Dee’s desire to mentor and coach young baseball players. He started coaching and holding youth baseball camps almost 10 years ago, while still playing himself. Since retiring he has taken on the task full-time helping young baseball players take their hitting to the next level and reach their goals long ball style.
